Challenege Question 2 - The "Sweating" Soda Can - For Air and Atmosphere
🥤 Challenge 2: The Mystery of the Sweating Can
Imagine you take a cold soda can out of the fridge on a very hot, humid day. Within minutes, it is covered in water droplets. Using what you learned from Investigation 5.3, explain exactly where that water came from. Did it leak through the metal?
⚠️ Please type your scientific explanation first! ⚠️
🌟 Sample Ideal Answer:
The water did NOT leak through the metal! The water came from the air surrounding the can. Air contains invisible water vapour. When this warm vapour touches the very cold surface of the soda can, it loses heat and condenses into liquid water droplets. This is the exact same thing that happened in our experiment with the glass tumbler and crushed ice!
